According to a study conducted by LawnStarter, a lawn care provider, Newark was the number two “dirtiest” city while Jersey City ranked fifth.

The study evaluated the cities based on several factors, including pollution, infrastructure, resident satisfaction and living conditions.

Data from various federal agencies was also used, with LawnStarter using data from the Environmental Protection Agency, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Energy and the Census Bureau.

Newark ranked in the top ten in the categories of living conditions and resident satisfaction, while neighboring Jersey City ranked second in living conditions and 15 in resident satisfaction, according to the study.

  • Houston, Texas
  • Newark, New Jersey
  • San Bernardino, California
  • Detroit, Michigan
  • Jersey City, New Jersey
  • Bakersfield, California
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • Fresno, California
  • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  • Yonkers, New York
