Houston Texas quarterback CJ Stroud took home the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award after a standout season in H-Town. But off the field this offseason he’s also emerged as one of the most authentic and beloved personalities across the league as well.
Stroud recently made an appearance alongside teammate Tank Dell on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game show to talk about a multitude of different topics including other NFL quarterbacks. Which led to Stroud revealing that Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is one of his favorites and best in the NFL in his eyes.
“I’m a student of the game, Stafford [is a] dog bro,” Stroud said.
“No, you don’t understand bruh, you’re saying that. That’s all I watch, I don’t watch nobody else,” Stroud told host Gillie Da Kid. “I watch [Patrick] Mahomes at times, because Mahomes does some stuff that you can’t coach. Stafford dog? He will beat you with the same thing every time.”
Stafford is an NFL veteran and a staple in the game, heading into his 16th year in the league this upcoming season. And while Stroud heads into just his second season in the NFL, he looks to take pages out of Stafford’s book whenever he can.
“All that no-look stuff? I got that from bruh, I’m a fan of his. When I go to LA, I be trying to find bro. Like we got the same trainers, I be trying to go to where they’re working out and just watch,” Stroud said. “He elite dog.”
Stafford spent the majority of his career on the Detroit Lions, a part of his journey that was overlooked in the NFL landscape due to the franchise’s lack of success during his 12 seasons with the team. Making just three playoff appearances and losing them all with the Lions.
In his first season with the Rams Stafford led the team to a Super Bowl LVI victory in , but Stroud believes that if his career started with another franchise, Stafford would have more than just one Super Bowl ring to his name so far in his career.
“If you give Matthew Stafford a chance like Aaron Rodgers had, I guarantee you he might’ve had more rings for sure. I’d say he’d have three, four,” Stroud said.
Like Stafford, Rodgers also had a lengthy tenure with one organization before moving on. Spending 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers before joining the New York Jets in 2023 via a trade. With Rogers winning one Super Bowl with the Packers in 2011 before departing while Stafford had to leave Detroit to get his ring.
It’s fascinating to think about if the two quarterbacks traded places and what the results would look like. But at the end of the day, they’re both two of the best passers still playing the game. Each throwing for over 50,000 yards and 350 touchdowns in their respective NFL careers to go along with their Super Bowl titles. As Stroud will look to reach similar heights the same moving forward in his young professional career.
