Steinberg doubles down on £14m transfer claim as Lopetegui wants to bring 26yo back to PL

So it appears as though Girona star Aleix Garcia is firmly on the radar of West Ham United this summer.

The 26-year-old Spaniard – who spent five years with Manchester City from 2015-2020 – is a transfer target for new West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui.

The 57-year-old Hammers boss has identified central midfield as an area at the London Stadium where he needs to improve urgently.

Edson Alvarez is a standout midfielder, but he doesn’t have any proper competition or cover, especially with Flynn Downes looking likely to join Southampton this summer.

Tomas Soucek and James Ward-Prowse are solid operators, but they both lack the athleticism we are so desperately crying out for.

If Lopetegui is going to take us to another level, he needs to add some real athleticism and energy to his engine room.

In addition to that though, he must sign someone who’s comfortable with the ball at his feet, if he is indeed going to transform the current Hammers side into a more possession-based team.

And that’s exactly what he’s trying to do it seems.

Aleix Garcia to West Ham transfer claim made

The Girona midfielder seems to be set for a big transfer away from the La Liga side this summer.

According to the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, the Hammers have made a £14 million bid for the 26-year-old Girona midfielder.

Wow, what an incredible signing he would be for us. However, Steinberg does have some bad news for the West Ham fans.

The Guardian reporter claims that the Hammers hierarchy fear that Bayer Leverkusen could be prepared to offer Garcia a more lucrative salary.

It’s worth noting that Leverkusen have Champions League football on offer as well, so if they do offer Garcia more money than West Ham do, he will surely join them over us.

The Spaniard is an exceptional deep-lying midfielder. He has a wonderful range of passing and is incredibly press-resistant, what with his composure in possession.

The Girona star would be a truly outstanding signing for the Hammers, so I’d really like to see David Sullivan and Tim Steidten pushing the boat out for this one.

West Ham signing Aleix Garcia for just £14 million would represent a huge bargain for us, so there’s no reason why the club’s owners shouldn’t be offering him a really lucrative contract in order to beat Leverkusen to his signature.
