West Ham back in for French ace who couldn't sign because of Paqueta

Tim Steidten is back in for a French ace who couldn’t sign for West Ham last year because of Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham are clearly in the market to try and sign a left-sided attackers and a striker this summer.

The likes of Luis Guilherme – who can play both left and right side – Jota Silva, Wilfried Zaha and Wesley Gassova have all been heavily linked with moves to the London Stadium.

Many believe the situation surrounding Lucas Paqueta may be driving the push for new players in that position.

West Ham face the possibility of losing Paqueta at any point if he is found guilty of the charges against him by an independent three-person panel.

There are also growing rumours that an elite club could pay in excess of £100m to lure Mohammed Kudus away a year before his £85m release clause becomes active.

Hammers target left-sided attackers

West Ham have also been linked with a throng of strikers including Youssef En-Nesyri, Victor Boniface, Armando Broja, Serhou Guirassy, Dominic Solanke, Ivan Toney and Samu Omorodion.

The search brings back memories of last year’s summer window for West Ham fans.

Tim Steidten was new in the job and spent a lot of time in France trying to sign French forwards Hugo Ekitike and Elye Wahi.

Both players can operate as a central striker or off the left.

In the end deadline day came and went without the Hammers adding a striker.

But it has since emerged that one of them would have signed in different circumstances.

West Ham back in for Wahi

Euro football expert Andy Brassell claimed West Ham had a deal agreed to sign Wahi if Paqueta had signed for Man City.

He said back in September that West Ham had a deal lined up and ready to go for Wahi before Paqueta’s move to Man City collapsed due to betting allegations.

“West Ham would have signed the striker Elye Wahi,” Brassell said.

“The deal was all lined up and he would have joined had Paqueta been sold.”

West Ham had been heavily linked with a move for Wahi when he was at Monpellier and the player wanted to join.

Paqueta remained at West Ham and Wahi was sold to Lens for £30m instead.

Now, one year on, the 21-year-old is set to leave Lens after a solitary season, according to L’Equipe.

And a French journalist claims the Hammers are ‘positioning themselves’ to try and sign Wahi for a second time.

Wahey for Wahi and West Ham?

Get French Football News is also reporting that Wahi is on his way out of Lens.

The GFFN report also states Wahi has clubs in the Premier League lining him up.

The striker scored 12 goals and laid on four assists as Lens finished seventh and failed to repeat their Champions League qualification heroics from the previous campaign.

The outlet also repeated L’Equipe’s claim that Lens and Wahi have reached an agreement for the striker to leave for pastures new this summer.
