Report: Man City are now facing competition in transfer race to sign ‘exceptional’ target

Another one of Europe’s top clubs have reportedly joined Manchester City in the race to sign one of their transfer targets this summer.

The previous summer transfer window saw the Blues sign two fairly young players from foreign clubs for significant amounts of money.

Specifically, the club shelled out £77m to sign Josko Gvardiol and £55m for Jeremy Doku.

Now that the next summer transfer window is on the horizon, some information has come to light regarding another young player the Manchester club have on their radar, who could also cost them a lot of money to sign.

According to a recent report from L’Equipe, RB Leipzig have now joined City, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Monaco midfielder Maghnes Akliouche.

The report also adds that it will likely take a significant transfer fee to sign the 22-year-old, as Monaco’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, stated recently that the club’s aim is to keep hold of Akliouche for at least another season.

After scoring three goals and delivering three assists in 17 appearances for Monaco’s U21 side, the midfielder has since gone on to score nine goals and provide five assists in 53 games across all competitions.

Akliouche has shown this season why he has so many clubs after him

With 28 Ligue 1 games under his belt this season, Akliouche racked up the third-highest number of key passes (38) in the Monaco squad and has the second-highest rate of shot-creating actions made per 90 minutes (4.91).

He also has the second-highest percentage of shots on target (61.1%) out of players that scored more than one league goal at the French club, with 22 of his 36 shots being on target.

Back in August 2022, talent scout Jacek Kulig highlighted these attributes Akliouche has on his X account.

He said: “Maghnes Akliouche: – advanced playmaker – elegant on the ball with a silky touch – technical, creative & composed – superb vision & passing skills – exceptional ability to manoeuvre in tight spaces – very high football IQ La Diagonale’s finest. Lovely player.”

With all of that in mind, it’s not hard to see why the midfielder has got so many big clubs across Europe looking to sign him this summer.
