It’s exciting times around the Kentucky women’s basketball program, and that has carried onto the national level as well. Last season (and for the better part of two years, really), Kentucky hadn’t even come close to touching the Top 25. Of course, after a complete overhaul, that has changed.

The Wildcats continue to climb in the national preseason rankings.

In On3’s post-spring Top 25, Kentucky sat just outside of the list alongside Nebraska. ESPN, however, had the ‘Cats just inside at No. 25. Seemingly, Kentucky is hovering right on the edge of being ranked or unranked in the eyes of most. However, World Exposure Report (WER) believes that not only are the ‘Cats a top 25 squad, but their firmly a top 25 squad.

WER has the ‘Cats as the No. 18 team in all the land, the highest preseason ranking that has been handed to UK thus far.

There are seven other SEC teams in WER’s Way-Too-Early Top 25, including four in the top 10. When people say the SEC is stacked, there’s a reason. Just finishing in the top half of the league is an accomplishment in its own right.

Along with providing rankings, WER also proposed their projected starting lineup for Kentucky which consists of Georgia Amoore, Dazia Lawrence, incoming freshman Lexi Blue, Jordan Obi, and Clara Strack. That would mean that JUCO star Amelia Hassett and Portuguese sensation Clara Silva both come off the bench in the frontcourt.

Meanwhile, returning juniors Cassidy Rowe and Saniah Tyler would bolster up the backcourt, and that all goes without mentioning former top 10 recruit Teonni Key, though she’s a frontcourt piece. New head coach Kenny Brooks has a talented roster on his hands, folks. Clearly, people at the national level are starting to take notice too.
