Liverpool do not believe they can sign ‘elite’ Premier League player this summer

Liverpool should be confident of bringing high-profile players to Anfield in the summer transfer window.

They may have lost iconic manager Jurgen Klopp, who has been replaced by the lesser-known Arne Slot, but fans will still be excited.

The Reds have returned to the Champions League, while they already boast a long list of star-studded names that should help persuade new top players to join them at Anfield.

Keeping top attacker Mohamed Salah may be key, but former Reds defender Steve Nicol believes a £100million bid for the winger must be accepted should it arrive.

The other end of the pitch may, however, be more pressing, with Slot needing a new defender following the exit of Joel Matip.

Liverpool and Chelsea stances emerge on Levi Colwill

Another central defender exit looks on the cards at Anfield this summer, with Sepp van den Berg telling the club he wants to leave.

That should force Slot into taking immediate action in that area of the pitch, with Chelsea ace Levi Colwill among the players he could look at.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has, however, provided a double blow to Liverpool fans regarding any potential move for the defender, who they appreciate.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs explained that Chelsea are ‘not engaging’ with any transfer talk about Colwill, with the Reds believing a move for the player is simply not possible in 2024.

Liverpool should pursue a transfer for Levi Colwill

While it is a blow, a pursuit of the ‘elite’ central defender should not be considered by the Reds, both given Chelsea’s situation and Liverpool’s need for a new centre-back.

The Blues are in disarray, with Mauricio Pochettino the latest manager to leave Stamford Bridge in rather acrimonious circumstances.

He has been replaced by former Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca, with his stance on Colwill uncertain at this moment in time.

The 21-year-old is a top talent, and has proven his versatility in his brief career so far with minutes at centre-back and left-back.

Such versatility would be warmly welcomed at Anfield, while Colwill himself may entertain a new challenge next season as he looks to get his international career back on track.

The defender has one England appearance to his name, but missed out in Gareth Southgate’s latest squad.
