Celtic fans debate who they want Brendan Rodgers to sign out of Adam Idah and Odsonne Edouard

Celtic’s pursuit of Adam Idah has been in the spotlight this week now that the striker has returned to Norwich City from his Parkhead loan spell.

The Republic of Ireland striker has won a special place in the Celtic fans’ hearts after his Scottish Cup-winning goal against Rangers at Hampden.

Over his four-month stint in Glasgow, Idah netted nine times in 19 appearances for the Hoops which helped keep Celtic’s eventual title win well on track. [Transfermarkt]

Two late penalty goals against Hibs immediately made him an instant hero with the Parkhead support and now that he is back with the Championship club, much of the Celtic support wants Rodgers to bring him back to the club.

Strangely though, Idah’s impact at Celtic opened up a discussion by the Celtic fans on social media channel X where the support seemed split if they had a choice between bringing the Irishman back to the club or French striker, Odsonne Edouard.

Celtic fans discuss Idah vs Edouard

Odsonne Edouard is currently Celtic’s record transfer incoming at the club at £9m. After leaving the club to join Crystal Palace in 2021, the Frenchman’s career has never hit the heights it once did in Glasgow.

But now that Edouard has been put up for sale, it has sparked a new debate amongst the fans on who they would now rather see back at the club if they were given the choice.

One fan reckons Edouard is better than Kyogo Furuhashi:

Another believes the Celtic fans need to stop looking back:

This Celtic fan admits he loves Idah but would have Edouard back in a heartbeat:

Another Celtic fan wants the club to look forward:

And this Celtic fan believes Idah wants to be at Celtic:

What cannot be denied is that both are special players. And whilst many Celtic fans believe that Edouard downed tools in his final season at the club, let’s not forget he still managed to finish as the club’s top goalscorer with 22 goals in 40 appearances in a shambles of a season that was affected hugely by COVID. However, what is clear is that the Frenchman would be far too expensive. Palace are likely to want to see a return on a large chunk of the £14m they paid Celtic for him [BBC] and with the best will in the world, the club simply cannot do that and match his Premier League wages as well.
