'Excellent' ace & January target: 3 players Danny Rohl should target for Sheffield Wednesday during EURO 2024 - opinion

Danny Rohl has enjoyed a fantastic start to the off-season so far, signing a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday before he jets off to the EURO 2024 tournament.

The German put pen to paper on a new deal with Sheffield Wednesday last month, days before it was confirmed that he would be part of the ITV team heading to his home country this summer.

Danny Rohl will link up with the punditry team and will work alongside the likes of Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Ange Postecoglou during the tournament.

The 35-year-old won’t see any Sheffield Wednesday players during his time in Germany, but could well reunite with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller.

Meanwhile, he could also be on the link out for players to add to his ranks at Hillsborough, with many players likely to be put in the shop window during the Euros.

Here are three Euros stars that Rohl should keep an eye on during the tournament…

3 players Danny Rohl could target from Euro 2024

Callum Styles

Born in Bury, Callum Styles is eligible to play for Hungary and made his international debut in 2022.

He has since earned 20 caps and will be looking to cause an upset as Hungary face Germany, Scotland and Switzerland in Group A.

Styles previously attracted interest from Burnley and Sheffield United before they were relegated to the Championship.

The ‘excellent’ midfielder eventually earned himself a move to Sunderland, starting 10 of his 13 matches at the club.

Styles had a horrid start to life on Wearside but seemed to gradually improve, mostly being deployed as a left wing-back.

Sunderland do have the option to make the Hungary international’s stay permanent, but it is unclear whether they will do so.

If not, Styles could be looking to make a move to the second tier after Barnsley missed out on promotion.

Daniel Gazdag

Daniel Gazdag plays alongside Styles for Hungary, making his debut in 2019. He went onto memorably score the last goal in their 4-0 hammering of England in 2022.

Sheffield Wednesday were already linked with Gazdag in January, as they looked to snap him up on loan.

The 28-year-old joined Philadelphia Union in 2021 and has been on fire since, netting 61 goals and providing 17 assists in 133 matches.

Gazdag has bagged 10 goals in 15 matches this term and, after becoming the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, could now look for a move to England.

Ryan Jack

Ryan Jack was released by Rangers this month, having struggled with injuries in recent years.

The midfielder has only managed 20 league appearances in one of his seven seasons in Glasgow, and has been able to reach his prime since joining the club at 25 years old.

Jack could look for a fresh start in England and could well attract interest from across the Championship and League One.

The Scot’s injury record is concerning, but could be worth the risk on a free transfer.
