Report: Tottenham now want to sign 'unbelievable' striker who scored more goals than Erling Haaland last season

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has added one of the most prolific strikers in the world to his transfer shortlist.

Spurs, on the whole, had a decent 2023/24 season. They finished the campaign in fifth and there are a lot of positives to take despite their terrible finish where they won just two of their last seven games.

Now, Tottenham need to go to the next level and to do that, they need to get their summer transfers right. A new striker is a priority.

Tottenham add Viktor Gyokeres to five-man striker shortlist

Tottenham are almost certain to sign a new striker this summer.

The North Londoners decided against replacing Harry Kane in the summer of 2023 after the England captain left Spurs to join Bayern Munich.

Heung-min Son and Richarlison shared the responsibility up front for Tottenham in the 2023/24 season, but Spurs need an out-and-out striker to take them to the next level.

GiveMeSport have now revealed that Tottenham have a five-man shortlist as they explore the market to sign a new striker this summer.

One of the names on the list is Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.

The ‘unbelievable‘ Swede had an incredible debut campaign in Portugal following his move from Coventry City. He scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions.

That is a better record than Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland, who only managed 38 goals and six assists for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Gyokeres, who is set to be a wanted man this summer, has a release clause in his contract worth €100 million (£86m), according to Fabrizio Romano.

The other four strikers on Tottenham’s wish list and their stats

Gyokeres is just one among five strikers Tottenham are thinking about signing this summer.

Postecoglou’s side have not put all their eggs in one basket – they have multiple options to choose from and all of them are interesting names.

Along with the Sporting Lisbon star, Tottenham have Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez, Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy and RB Leipzig star Lois Openda.

All of the above are prolific strikers who are capable of winning games on their own. But, who had the best 2023/24 season?

Here are their stats…
