Report: Champions League club now pushing to sign £30m West Ham star; player is keen on the move

West Ham United are facing another summer of change and could now lose one of their big-money signings to a Champions League club.

The Hammers have moved on from David Moyes and now Julen Lopetegui is in charge as the club looks for a brand new start.

Of course, any part of a new manager’s remit is to assess the current squad and make decisions, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

And while Lopetegui will want new signings, he faces a battle to keep hold of a player the Hammers splashed out £30m on back in 2022.

Atletico Madrid want to sign Nayef Aguerd from West Ham

According to a report from The Sun, Atletico are keen on signing Agued and are looking to wrap up a deal worth just over £20m.

The defender had been a regular for the Hammers since signing but missed out on the last few months of the season.

Now, it looks like a move to the Spanish giants could happen.

Crucially, the report here claims that Aguerd is actually keen on the move and likes the idea of testing himself in La Liga.

And with Champions League football to come as well, Aguerd is in a position to make a strong argument to get the deal done.

West Ham need to wheel and deal

It’s not the end of the world really for West Ham if they were to lose Aguerd.

Yes, he is a sound defender and a good player but the Hammers have options in that position and if they can get close to their money back, it’s not so bad.

The Hammers have Kurt Zouma, Tino Mavropanos and Angelo Ogbonna who can all play in defence, while Edson Alvarez can step in if needed as well.

Ultimately, under a new manager, there will be changes. Aguerd, then, could be the first of a few who end up out the door this summer.
