Fabrizio Romano claims Man Utd have made approach to sign 'special' £56m striker, he's now deciding his future

Manchester United are expected to invest in a new striker this summer and we are seeing all different types of forwards being linked towards Old Trafford.

The summer transfer window is upon us and it’s still unclear just who will be Manchester United boss next season.

Erik ten Hag is still waiting for the final decision from Ineos and United’s transfer business may be somewhat stunted by the managerial delay.

United certainly need signings this summer though and a new striker is a priority at Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund has shown his potential but the Dane certainly needs help in the final third with Anthony Martial now leaving this summer.

A striker was needed anyway given Martial’s injury problems and United appear to have a few different targets in mind.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney has been linked, a proven Premier League striker who has the physicality to play up front on his own if needed.

We have also seen links towards Wolves ace Matheus Cunha, more of a versatile forward who could offer flexibility in the final third.

Manchester United have made Benjamin Sesko approach

Another name in the mix is Benjamin Sesko with the RB Leipzig striker a long-term target for United.

United wanted to sign Sesko from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 but he chose to sign for partner club RB Leipzig instead.

Sesko has since admitted that RB Leipzig’s style of play – and its similarity to Red Bull Salzburg’s – was the main factor in snubbing United.

United have maintained an interest in Sesko though and the striker’s agent attended the 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal in May.

Fabrizio Romano has now taken to social media to claim that Sesko is ‘taking some days’ to figure out his next move.

RB Leipzig are attempting to tie Sesko down to a new contract, seemingly with the idea of altering his release clause.

Sesko has already rejected a big-money move to Saudi Arabia but is now weighing up whether to stay with RB Leipzig or move on.

Romano adds that United have made an approach to sign Sesko, but so have Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

That leaves United in a real battle to finally sign Sesko, who may well want a firm decision on his future before Euro 2024 starts.

Sesko will be featuring for Slovenia in Germany this summer, looking to make a big impact in group stage games against Denmark, Serbia and England.

Sesko release clause explained

The 6ft 5in hitman ended the season in simply sensational form.

Sesko smashed scored in seven consecutive games to end his first Bundesliga campaign with 14 goals in 31 games.

Praised as a ‘special’ talent, Sesko looks to be a star of the future and his strong form actually changed his release clause.

Reports in Germany suggest that Sesko’s release clause was raised from £43million to £56million by the end of the season, with the final value seemingly dependent on his performances.

Sesko’s goals will make RB Leipzig a little more money than first expected, but that value still leaves them open to losing such a talented young striker.

Landing another physical and athletic yet somewhat inexperienced forward – just a year after signing Hojlund – may be viewed as something of a gamble.

Yet if United can have two of the top young strikers in Europe for years to come, another striker may not be needed for a long, long time.

That is why Sesko is so appealing and with a decision seemingly coming in the near future, United will hope to finally win the race.
