The odds on Colorado to win the College Football Playoff national championship just took an interesting turn, according to Bet MGM.
The odds moved from +20,000 to +12500, according to John Ewing. It seems like a lot of people placed some money on Deion Sanders and crew to win it all in 2024.
It is an expanded College Football Playoff, so there are more spots available. The Buffaloes also moved to the Big 12, so that could provide its own challenges.
The schedule can be difficult as the Buffaloes move into the Big 12. But there are winnable games based on Colorado’s influx of talent.
It’s just about gelling at the right time and making a run this year, unlike 2023 where there was a huge skid. ESPN’s Greg McElroy broke down the games Colorado had to win this year.
Heck, if the Buffaloes are going to make a 12-team playoff, you better not lose these.
“I think there are four must win games on the schedule,” McElroy said on Always College Football. “Absolutely must-win, cannot lose them. It’d be North Dakota State that’s in the opener, at Nebraska, at Colorado State and against Cincinnati at home. Those four games are absolutely must-win.. If you lose one of those games, then you can still get to a bowl game but your 50-50 games become much, much more difficult.
“So I think you win those four games that I just listed … by the way, I think winning at Nebraska is going to be a real tall order but I think it’s a must-win game. If Colorado wants to go bowling. And you look at the 50-50 games you have to win two of the four 50-50 games.”
Colorado is already coming off of a 4-8 record that ended on a six-game losing streak, even though they were coming off a 1-8 finish in the year prior. They’ll now try to improve on that with a roster that has its issues like the first one did. That’s before even discussing their new surroundings in their return to the Big 12.
“For all of Colorado’s improvement from one win to four wins, they were still a 1-8 conference team last year,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel said. “They ended the season on a long losing streak,” Thamel noted. “Then they had another complete roster turnover.
“No matter what they want to say, they lost some good players. Dylan Edwards is a good player. Alton McCaskill had been a really good player – he was the Rookie of the Year in the AAC. They have five new starters on the offensive line. Travis Hunter is going to moonlight at receiver still but they have some huge voids to fill there. I’m very curious to see how this reload goes because their schedule is going to be a lot different.”
