Dominic Solanke names the best player he ever played with during his time at Liverpool

Liverpool have had countless word-class players among their ranks over the years, with many stars still present at Anfield.

New Reds manager Arne Slot will be heavily relying on such players to help ease his transition from Feyenoord.

The boss arrives with plenty of pressure on his shoulders, particularly given the fantastic job that Jurgen Klopp did on Merseyside.

But as they have done for several years now, the likes of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk should step up the plate.

One player that did not reach the heights expected of him at Anfield, however, was striker Dominic Solanke.

Dominic Solanke full of praise for Philippe Coutinho

The forward arrived from Premier League rivals Chelsea in 2017, but really struggled to establish himself for the Reds.

He is, however, grateful to have played alongside Philippe Coutinho during his brief spell on Merseyside, with Solanke naming the Brazilian as one of the top three players he has played with or against.

“Eden Hazard,” Solanke said on In The Bag when asked to name such players. “He was a scandal to be fair, so good.

“Coutinho, he’s so good as well. Then against I’d probably say Neymar, he’s different as well.”

What happened to Dominic Solanke at Liverpool?

Solanke was one of countless players among the youth ranks at Chelsea to shine at that level and not be given a chance in the first team.

The striker scored goals for fun in West London, with his feats carrying into the international scene as Solanke helped England Under-17s win the Euros and the Under-20s win the World Cup.

But a loan move to Vitesse disrupted his time with the Blues, with the striker only making one appearance for Chelsea before being moved on to Liverpool.

The Reds certainly took a chance on the striker given his lack of playing time at senior level, although they were perhaps confident given that his only Blues appearance came under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.

But Solanke struggled at Anfield, finding the back of the net just once from his 27 appearances for the Reds.

It was, however, a tough time for the Merseyside club overall, with their major success unfortunately arriving after Solanke left in 2019.

Could Dominic Solanke make a remarkable return to Liverpool?

Liverpool would have been absolutely delighted with the sale, moving him on to Bournemouth for £19million after snapping him up on a free from Chelsea.

Such transfers have been common at Anfield in recent years, with Jamie Carragher stating that those in charge are ‘unbelievable’ at selling.

There could, however, be a remarkable U-turn for Solanke, who could be given another chance at Liverpool after a stunning season at Bournemouth in which he scored 21 goals.
