Rangers fans told to keep an eye on Damian Garcia transfer speculation

Rangers will have to shop smart this summer with Philippe Clement hoping to get lucky with a few bargain signings.

The lack of big fees isn’t a cause for concern though with the wage bill on the way down and the prospect of Champions League football around the corner if they get recruitment right.

The Bosman ruling is one that Rangers will be taking full advantage of and one Ibrox transfer target is a name that fans should be keeping an eye on.

Rangers move for Damian Garcia in the pipeline

According to journalist Mark Hendry of Football Scotland, the situation concerning midfielder Damian Garcia is a fluid one.

His current wage is peanuts with his agent complaining that his client barely has enough to cover his rent, but it doesn’t look like a new deal will be signed any time soon despite the demands of his manager.

Hendry, dropping a hint that there could be an update coming soon urged Rangers fans to keep an eye on Garcia.

This is, probably, the most exciting link of the transfer window so far as Phillipe Clement looks to rebuild his squad.

Rangers need wingers and need more goals in the forward line, however, a proper defensive midfielder is a must after the departures of Ryan Jack and John Lundstram.

Garcia might not be the tallest player at 5ft 8, but he has the positional sense, aggression and ability on the ball that is a must for such a key role.

Rangers transfer targets have exciting profile

South America seems to be a market that Nils Koppen is dipping his Rangers recruitment toes into with wages nowhere near as expensive as players from the top five leagues in Europe.

There are bargains to be had and Koppen’s trip to Mexico for the latest TransferRoom conference could pay dividends.

In January, he came back with Oscar Cortes all but signed and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see other Latin Americans join the Colombian and Brazilian full-back Jefte.

The Rangers squad has been stale for some time and bringing in fresh legs with a renewed dynamism is exactly the direction that fans want to see the club taking.

Clement has shown what he wants his team to look like and it wasn’t until he had the backups for the backups playing every week that the wheels started to fall off the title campaign.

Penarol are not a wealthy club and, with only six months left on his contract, Damian Garcia won’t be expensive for a player with such high potential.

Cortes shone at the Under-20 World Cup, Garcia played a key role in Uruguay winning it.

These are the players Rangers need on, and off the field.
