Bijan Robinson: Texas has ‘a really good chance of doing some good stuff’

As the College Football Playoff field expands to 12 teams and conference realignment officially takes hold with the start of the 2024 season, some programs like Texas are feeling great about their chances to make a big splash this season.

One person who is familiar with the inner workings of the program feels even more confident.

“I think we’re really good, even just us going to the SEC, like I think we have like a really good chance of doing some good stuff,” said former Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson on an episode of Bussin’ with the Boys. “We’ve got everybody coming from the portal.”

The Longhorns did indeed aggressively mine the transfer portal for talent to pair with returning starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. Texas needed to, because it lost a good deal of production in the passing game.

In steps Alabama receiver Isaiah Bond, Oregon State receiver Silas Bolden, Houston receiver Matthew Golden and Alabama tight end Amari Niblack. All have proven production at a high level.

That should help the offense remain in gear, despite losing some key pieces.

The Texas defense added some equally productive parts, so if the Longhorns can put it all together again there’s no reason to think they won’t be one of the top 12 teams in the country. Couple that with the culture Sarkisian has instilled and it’s an even better bet.

Robinson broke down what it’s like playing for Sarkisian at Texas.

“Man it was so much fun. Just having him as not necessarily a father figure, but like an older brother to come and like actually coach me and take me in,” Robinson said. “What was cool was like me and Sark, I was with them for the rise of what he has now. So those struggles that we went through, that was like what we had to go through. Now seeing him be respected around the whole college football, around everybody that knows football, it’s pretty sick, I’m not going to lie.

“But he’s definitely the dude that I respect a lot, especially for making me who I am today as a young man. I love that dude, man. Coach Sark.”
