GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators‘ coaching staff celebrated winning the Stillwater Regional by getting a win in the transfer portal. On Wednesday, the Gators got a commitment from Jacksonville infielder Justin Nadeau, who visited Gainesville on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Nadeau just finished his sophomore season and will have two years of eligibility to play. As a freshman at JU, he started all 49 games he appeared in (47 at second base, 2 at first base). He finished third on the team in batting average, tied for third in hits, and fourth in on-base percentage. Nadeau was the first JU freshman to reach the 30 RBI mark since 2010. He was second on the team with 17 multi-hit games and had seven multi-RBI games. He was named to the ASun All-Freshman team.

Nadeau played in 30 games this past season, making 29 starts. He slashed .395/.482/.521. He had 11 extra-base hits and was 11-12 on steal attempts. Nadaeau has played multiple positions, something Florida valued when recruiting him. He also has shown the ability to get on base and hit for average.

How does Justin Nadeau fit in with the Gators?

Florida will lose a lot to the MLB Draft and to graduation. That list includes infielders Jac Caglianone, Tyler Shelnut, Armando Albert, and Dale Thomas. On Tuesday, freshman third baseman John Martinez officially entered the transfer portal. That will leave the Gators with only Colby Shelton — who is draft eligible and could sign a pro contract this offseason — Cade Kurland and freshman Sammy Mummau. Ashton Wilson can play infield as well but the Gators will need to continue looking to add depth to the infield.

Getting Nadeau, who can play multiple infield positions is the start to rebuilding the infield for the 2025 season.

As of June 5, more than 3,500 baseball players have entered their names into the transfer portal.
