‘Brutal’: Danny Murphy has now reacted to Kevin De Bruyne’s comments on potential Man City exit

Danny Murphy has shared his reaction to Kevin De Bruyne’s recent comments about his Manchester City future.

In a recent interview with HLN, the midfielder said that he’d be open to joining a club in the Saudi Pro League and admitted that he would consider all options in regards to his future.

The 32-year-old, whose current contract at City is set to expire in the summer of 2025, also mentioned his family as being a key factor in what his next career move could be.

This has since led to one pundit sharing his thoughts on what the City star had to say about his future.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy had this to say when asked what he made of De Bruyne’s latest comments.

He said: “My feeling is that he’s just done the interview with brutal honesty. I think that he’s only saying what 99% of players would be thinking.

“You’re supposed to toe the line, there’s times when you think I can’t say that in case it’s frowned upon and people judge me. But he’s comfortable in his own skin, he’s given so many years to Manchester City at such a high level, been wonderfully successful.

“He’s 32 now, nearly 33, exactly the age where you are starting to look at what’s the last great deal for you. I find it refreshingly honest.

“I think it’s his truth, logic suggests it’s the right truth because why wouldn’t you entertain offers? A new lifestyle change, he’s been in the same area as long as he has, his kids are young enough to move and still be able to adapt and go back somewhere else.

“If he’d have said something mundane and boring along the lines of I’m happy at Manchester City, I’ve got another year left, we’ll see where we are in a year and all that nonsense, you’d be thinking you’ve told us nothing, but he’s just been honest.”

City should offer De Bruyne a new deal

With nine seasons now under his belt at the Manchester club, De Bruyne has scored 102 goals, delivered 170 assists and won numerous domestic and European trophies along the way.

In our view, we agree with Murphy that De Bruyne has been open and honest about his situation at City and how he views his future.

Moving forward, having been such a key figure for the Blues in terms of delivering goal contributions, we feel that the club should offer the Belgian a new deal to try and keep him at the Etihad beyond 2025.
