Phil Foden shares what Pep Guardiola told him right after he was given his Premier League winner's medal

Phil Foden has revealed what Pep Guardiola said to him right after he wore his Premier League winner’s medal in May.

Phil Foden starred in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory against West Ham United, scoring a brace and becoming the only player in the club’s history alongside Ilkay Gundogan to score on the final day of the Premier League season.

City’s number 47 was embraced by Guardiola, who was all smiles with his key man, who spearheaded them to the league title against the Hammers.

Foden reveals what Guardiola said to him after getting Premier League medal

Pep Guardiola noted Phil Foden has become a senior player after the pair were crowned Premier League champions for the sixth time.

Foden said via the Daily Mail: “It’s funny, I feel like the City manager sometimes thinks I’m still a little boy, I don’t mind. When I was on stage to get my winner’s medal, he said to me: ‘You’ve grown up now!’

“It’s nice to have been on this rollercoaster with him and to have shared so many great memories.”

A potential hint about how Guardiola might view him next season

Considering Phil Foden revealed that Pep Guardiola still views him as a youngster at times, perhaps coming into the season, that is how he largely viewed the silky technician.

However, Foden showed Guardiola and the rest of the world that it is high time he is considered one of the best players in Europe.

Several times during the 2023/2024 season, the Englishman was utilised in a hybrid role where he played centrally when City had possession and out wide when they were defending as a unit.

But judging by how Guardiola views Foden as a “grown-up” nowadays, he may look to build his Manchester City side around him — primarily utilising him as a number 10.

With how influential Phil Foden was to the Sky Blues’ success, Pep Guardiola understandably views him as one of his main men.

The 24-year-old has matured, both as a player as well as a leader at the Etihad Stadium and the responsibility he might get given could increase next season.
