Manchester United wonderkid wins FA Cup Player of the Season Award

Manchester United have spent millions in the transfer market over the past decade to try and find success.

The likes of Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, Angel di Maria, Romelu Lukaku have passed through at Old Trafford and not won a single trophy. Add Cristiano Ronaldo‘s second spell to the list.

And then there is the boy from the academy who didn’t cost a penny, Carrington’s finest, Kobbie Mainoo, who is celebrating winning his first FA Cup and made it look easy.

Mainoo scored in the final, the strike which proved to the the winner, helping to defeat rivals Manchester City.

Kobbie Mainoo wins FA Cup award

Kobbie Mainoo has been a real find for Manchester United this season after breaking into the first team and establishing himself as a regular.

Mainoo, who recently turned 19, is currently with the England squad preparing for Euro 2024.

He is also celebrating winning a new award, with the FA announcing the 2024 FA Cup Player of the Season.

The FA Cup’s social media channels revealed Mainoo is the winner of the award, voted for by supporters.

Kobbie Mainoo award shows how far he has come

One year ago Kobbie Mainoo had barely played for Manchester United. He had only one start, and his contribution to the team’s FA Cup campaign came as a substitute in a fourth round win over Reading.

This was just a case of manager Erik ten Hag preparing Mainoo for the potential opportunity ahead, and the teenager has risen to the challenge.

Even in his wildest dreams, Mainoo might not quite have been prepared for the season to end as successfully as this one has, lifting his first senior trophy, and scoring the decisive goal at Wembley.

Winning an award contended by just Manchester United players is one thing. There have been some big performances throughout the tournament, and few would argue if Amad won it, purely from his winner against Liverpool.

To win it ahead of every other player in the country, shows how big his contribution to this season has been, and why United are so glad to have him,
