‘Honestly believe’: Eddie Jordan shares who would win a race between Verstappen, Schumacher and Senna

Red Bull Racing star Max Verstappen has already cemented his name among the pantheons of Formula 1’s best drivers.

The Dutchman is already a triple world champion at the age of 26 and already looks on course to win his fourth title this year.

Eddie Jordan was speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast and compared him to two more F1 greats.

Max Verstappen, Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna have won 13 F1 world championships between them.

They have each dominated an era of Formula 1 even driving against some remarkable foes.

Jordan has now suggested that in the same car on the same track, Verstappen would defeat Senna and Schumacher in a race.

It’s a bold claim but highlights just how talented the Red Bull driver really is.

Eddie Jordan thinks Max Verstappen would beat Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna

It speaks volumes about how dominant Red Bull have been in recent years that there are concerns about whether or not they’ll win both championships at this stage of the season.

Verstappen still has a 31-point lead over Charles Leclerc despite only winning one of the last three races.

The gap is smaller in the Constructors’ Championship, with Ferrari closing in on Red Bull and narrowing the gap to 24 points after the Monaco Grand Prix.

That’s down to the recent struggles of Sergio Perez who has only finished on the podium once in the last four races.

The Mexican has done enough to earn himself a new two-year contract with Red Bull, although, like Schumacher before him, Verstappen tends to enjoy having a clear number two driver next to him in the team.

Senna didn’t always have that luxury and had some almighty battles with Alain Prost during their time together at McLaren.

Jordan now believes that Verstappen would get the better of Schumacher and Senna in a fair race.

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see Verstappen in a close-fought battle with a teammate in F1 unless he decides to switch teams.

Eddie Jordan sings Max Verstappen’s praises

Talking about the best talents he’s discovered in F1, Jordan said: “I was lucky enough in 1982 to find a guy called Da Silva, gave him his first drive in Silverstone in a Formula 3 car.

“We went to Macau in 1983 and this guy Da Silva won the race and he changed his name to [Ayrton] Senna.

“So, yes, I’ve had Senna in the car, yes I’ve had Michael Schumacher in the car but I honestly believe hand on heart that if you could get Senna, Schumacher, Max [Verstappen] in the same cars in the same race at a given moment, I think Max would edge it.

“I really think Max would edge it because I think he’s that good, he’s so solid, he’s been racing for a very long time.”

Verstappen has a phenomenal record against his teammates in Formula 1 and that doesn’t look likely to change any time soon.

He out-qualified and out-raced Daniel Ricciardo after his promotion to the senior Red Bull team, eventually forcing the Australian to head to Renault.

The likes of Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon couldn’t cope during their with the Dutchman either.

His record against Sergio Perez is phenomenal, only being beaten in qualifying on 10 out of 74 occasions.

Verstappen would fancy his chances against the likes of Senna and Schumacher as well, but it will only ever be speculation as to how that battle would actually play out.
