'Best': Swedish media deliver interesting verdict on Alexander Isak's performance last night

Alexander Isak has taken his Newcastle United form to the international stage.

The 24-year-old is on the back of his best season ever, with Alexander Isak netting 25 goals in all competitions. 21 of those came in the Premier League, with the Newcastle United striker finishing six goals behind golden boot winner Erling Haaland.

It was an incredible campaign for Isak, and one that he will hope to replicate in black and white next season after stating his intention to remain at St James’ Park. There has been speculation that he could be sold for PSR reasons, but Isak has no plans to leave Tyneside this summer.

He is part of the Sweden squad that are playing friendlies against Denmark and Serbia, two nations who England will face at Euro 2024. However, Sweden will not be facing anyone after failing to qualify for the competition.

Instead, Isak and co are being used for warmup games, and that is exactly what happened in Copenhagen on Wednesday night as they lost 2-1 to Denmark.

Swedish media react as Isak continues his form from Newcastle

Isak played 70 minutes during the friendly, getting himself a goal and a booking during that time. His finish was a smart one, picking up a loose ball to ruthlessly draw Sweden level in the ninth minute.

It was a typical Isak strike, whose instinct in front of goal is incredible.

In fact, he was described as Sweden’s best player by Swedish website Fotbollskanalen, who gave Isak a rating of 3/5, which they consider to be ‘good’.

On Isak, they wrote: “The goalscoring form from the club team continued thanks to an ice-cold finish in the equaliser. Difficult to catch for the Danish defence and linked up nicely with the midfield. Strong third, close to a fourth. Best in Sweden.”

Sweden fans will have been delighted to see Isak get on the scoresheet. He has been prolific since signing for Newcastle United in 2022, but it has been a different story on the international stage.

His goal against Denmark was his first for his country since September 2023, having found the net in a 5-0 win over Estonia.

Interestingly, Isak has only scored two goals for Sweden since becoming a Newcastle United player in August 2022.

Another Newcastle player featured for Sweden on Wednesday night

Isak was not the only Newcastle United player representing Sweden on Tuesday night.

Emil Krafth was also in the starting XI, winning his 47th cap for his country.

It was a decent outing for the Toon defender too, with Krafth also receiving a rating of ‘good’ from Fotbollskanalen.

On Krafth, they wrote: “The right-back stood for a strong effort. Solid defensively and he tried to contribute offensively when the opportunity arose. Won duels and was on the cutting edge.”

‘Solid defensively’ pretty much sums Krafth up. He is excellent in one-on-one battles, and has become very reliable for Newcastle United since Eddie Howe became manager.

He was particularly important at the end of the season just gone, with Krafth having to fill in at centre-back. The 29-year-old did very well there, proving exactly how valuable he is to Howe as a squad player.
