Report: After Tosin, Chelsea are now interested in another player who Newcastle United want to sign

Newcastle United are already sick of the sight of Chelsea this summer, as they swooped in to steal Tosin Adarabioyo.

The Magpies were confident about bringing Tosin to Tyneside, only for Chelsea to come in and tempt the 26-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

He is now going to sign for the Blues, meaning Newcastle will need to look elsewhere for a right-sided centre-back. That is one of the positions that the Magpies are targeting, with Eddie Howe keen to make four signings this summer.

But Tosin will not be one of them, and now Chelsea could potentially move for another of Newcastle’s summer transfer targets.

Chelsea join Newcastle in the race to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The Magpies have been linked with signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as they ponder replacing Callum Wilson ahead of the 2024/25 season.

However, he is now on Chelsea’s radar as well.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who report that the Blues are considering a move for Calvert-Lewin as they assess their attacking options.

Benjamin Sesko is also a target for Chelsea – another player who Newcastle United have been linked with. However, he appears to be favouring a move to Arsenal this summer.

What is likely to happen with Calvert-Lewin

While Chelsea pipping us to Tosin’s signature was a major blow, there will not be too much disappointment if Calvert-Lewin moves to Stamford Bridge over St James’ Park.

The 27-year-old is not one of the Magpies’ most exciting targets, while a deal is completely dependent on Callum Wilson leaving the club. That is considered likely at this moment in time, although a deal has not come to fruition as of yet.

In truth, it would be a surprise if Calvert-Lewin went to Chelsea. The most likely outcome is him staying at Everton, with the Toffees currently discussing a new contract with him. If he signs a new deal, that will end all speculation of a move away from Goodison Park.

Chelsea have beaten Newcastle to a lot of signings in recent years

While Calvert-Lewin may or may not follow Tosin in snubbing Newcastle for Chelsea, there are plenty of players who the Blues have signed in recent years ahead of the Magpies.

Newcastle frustratingly missed out on Andrey Santos to Chelsea in January 2023, while it was also disappointing to see Angelo Gabriel make the same move.

Moises Caicedo was a Toon target who Eddie Howe really liked, but he became Chelsea’s most expensive signing ever instead.

Even Mykhailo Mudryk was on Newcastle’s radar before Chelsea swooped in.

While the Blues have got a lot wrong in recent years, they have been ruthless in the transfer window.
