German Chancellor Olaf Scholz downplayed expectations for the peace summit set to take place in Switzerland in mid-June while outlining the goals of the meeting, citing Tagesschau.

"There will be no peace talks there. We are still far from that as long as Russia believes it can achieve its goals on the battlefield," he said.

According to the chancellor, the goal is to involve countries from around the world to make it clear to Moscow that international law and the UN Charter are in effect. He emphasized that Russia must withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

"The Bundeswehr needs to be strengthened, and Ukraine must receive assistance. But there is nothing naive or indecent about citizens being concerned about peace," Scholz added.

Peace summit

At the end of next week, a peace summit will take place in Switzerland, with representatives from over 150 countries possibly participating. The summit is expected to discuss the peace formula proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

However, the aggressor Russia has not been invited to the summit. The Office of the President believes that the presence of the Russian side could negatively impact the search for solutions and hinder the achievement of peace goals.

Nevertheless, some countries have refused to participate in the conference, stating that both sides of the conflict must be involved to achieve peace.

Previously, Singapore confirmed its participation in the peace summit.

Meanwhile, the media reported which Southeast Asian countries would participate in the peace summit.
