Report: Relegated club are 'yet to make contact' with Sunderland amid interest in 'excellent' gem

One of Sunderland’s prized assets looks on track to be staying at the club for now.

Sunderland face competition to keep hold of a number of key players, though they are likely to accept defeat in Jack Clarke’s case.

The winger has been linked with a long list of Premier League clubs and could leave Wearside for eight figures this summer.

Meanwhile, Jobe is currently the subject of heavy interest from Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Brentford.

The likes of Trai Hume, Dan Ballard and Anthony Patterson have also been linked with the moves to the top flight, while the latter looks set to have a number of options ahead of next season.

The goalkeeper earned interest from Liverpool earlier this year, with Caoimhin Kelleher set to leave Anfield.

Sheffield United then joined the race for his signature following their relegation, with reports claiming they were preparing an £8 million bid.

Sheffield United’s interest in Anthony Patterson hasn’t progressed

There was a lot of doubt over whether Patterson would want to move to Bramall Lane or whether the Blades would be willing to pay the fee required to sign him.

However, their interest doesn’t seem to have progressed anyway, with the Sunderland Echo reporting that that they are ‘yet to make contact’ regarding a potential deal.

The Blades have released goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and are now without a number one in between the sticks.

However, it does look increasingly unlikely that they would manage to land Patterson this summer.

The boyhood Sunderland fan is unlikely to leave

The report also claims that the 24-year-old isn’t expecting to leave his boyhood club, so to be persuaded by a move to another Championship side would be a big surprise.

It could come down to any offers that Sunderland receive for him, but if they were to receive a seven-figure bid for him then there may not be too many complaints if they were prepared to part ways.

Whether any club would be willing to pay that is another question, but fans will be eagerly awaiting to see what happens.
