Alan Nixon drops 5-word Derby County transfer update as Paul Warne eyes first summer signing

Alan Nixon has dropped a five-word verdict on the current state of play at Derby County ahead of the summer transfer window.

Derby County are edging ever closer to completing their first signing of the summer.

Although the window doesn’t officially open till June 14th, Paul Warne is preparing to assemble his squad for the Championship, revealing he had phone calls with three players on Monday.

There isn’t any knowledge of who those players might be, though Warne has previously said his scouts are watching certain players in Holland and Denmark ahead of their pre-season tour.

It’s an exciting sign for Derby, who have a lot of work to do in the transfer window after waving goodbye to six first-team players, including captain Conor Hourihane and starting goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith.

Journalist Alan Nixon has even built excitement further by stating the Rams are looking at a midfielder on loan.

Derby County’s midfield overhaul is a huge task

Aside from signing a new starting goalkeeper and proven striker, the midfield is a position that is looking most bare at the moment.

Max Bird completed his permanent departure to Bristol City, Hourihane and Korey Smith were released at the end of their contracts while Ebou Adams returned to Cardiff City following his loan spell at Pride Park.

That leaves just academy graduates Darren Robinson and Liam Thompson alongside ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder Tyrese Fornah.

To say that area needs strengthening is an understatement with at least three players, including a permanent move for Adams, to fill the void.

Nixon’s update also suggests Warne will be shopping in the loan market as there are plenty of bargains to pick up from Premier League clubs, and one he’s a long-term admirer of.

Bobby Clark could be the player Paul Warne is looking at

Derby are long-term admirers of Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark.

Although the 19-year-old featured 12 times in the first-team last term and scored against Sparta Prague in the Europa League last 16 home tie, Clark could be on the move to a Championship club this term.

The youngster is a talented attacking midfielder, who is adept at driving forward and unlocking defences with his vision.

Jurgen Klopp labelled the Englishman as “fantastic” after scoring in Europe for the first time but despite experiencing highs at one of the biggest clubs in the world, opportunities will be at a premium under new manager Arne Slot.

Liverpool have shown they aren’t afraid to loan out their youngsters having watched Fabio Carvalho and Tyler Morton, two midfielders from the academy, flourish at Championship side Hull City.

Clark could follow in their footsteps by joining a second-tier club this summer and if speculation is correct, it could be the player Warne is looking at.
