Report: Chelsea already believe player who played 38 games for them last season could be their future manager

Reports have claimed one of Chelsea’s key players last season is being earmarked as a candidate to become their manager in the future.

The managerial situation seems to take twists and turns every season at Stamford Bridge, and the latest change was one that actually caught a lot of people off guard.

Mauricio Pochettino had his side playing some impressive stuff in the latter weeks of the season, and this was enough for them to at least secure some form of European football.

However, he was relieved of his duties, with former Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca being the candidate handed a long contract with the intention of taking this project into the future.

His inexperience saw some eyebrows raised, but there is certainly a plan in place for the club to succeed in the coming years.

Thiago Silva earmarked as future Chelsea manager

According to the Evening Standard, this is also the plan for the future as far as giving younger coaches a go, and one of those who has a big chance of doing so in the future is Thiago Silva.

The Brazilian left the club at the end of last season where he featured 38 times, potentially more than anyone thought as he approached his 40 birthday,

During this time, he was completing his coaching badges with the club as he looks ahead to a future after his playing days.

Before he does anything about that, he will play at least a season with Fluminense, the Brazilian side he featured for earlier in his career.

Silva expected to break Brazilian football record

His return is being highly anticipated over there, with his unveiling expected to break a Brazilian football record in the coming days.

Silva’s popularity at Stamford Bridge over the last few years has been matched by few, with him clearly putting everything into every performance. If he maintains that passion in his coaching career, he could end up having a future here too.
