Nottingham Forest set to sign striker compared to Ronaldo for free, 25 Premier League goals - Fabrizio Romano

Nottingham Forest are now confident about signing a player with 25 Premier League goals for free.

While the Reds are far from a poor club nowadays, Evangelos Marinakis and Ross Wilson need to be clever with how funds are spent, as The Athletic believe one major sale is needed before June 30th to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Despite that looming deadline, Nottingham Forest still want to bolster Nuno Espirito Santo‘s squad after another very close shave with relegation last season – and a first signing of the summer now seems close…

Nottingham Forest confident about Che Adams deal

Nottingham Forest have now made Che Adams an offer after his contract with Southampton expired – and the Garibaldi are confident about luring the striker to the City Ground.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

Funnily enough, we suggested in an article on Wednesday that Nottingham Forest should consider a swoop for Adams this summer amid financial restrictions – as he is a free agent.

Now, it would seem Wilson – Chief Football Officer at Nottingham Forest – either reads Nottingham Forest News, or is simply wide awake when it comes to market opportunities this summer.

Romano believes the Reds have managed to move ahead of Wolves in the race to sign Adams, and those on the recruitment team at the City Ground are now “waiting” for the deal to be finalised.

The Scotland international scored 17 goals in 46 appearances – while also providing six assists – across all competitions last season as Southampton made an immediate return to the Premier League.

Furthermore, in 124 Premier League appearances, Adams boasts 25 goals and 13 assists.

Smart business

In our view, this is very wise business from Nottingham Forest – especially after Taiwo Awoniyi endured a tough time with injuries last season.

Adams is right in the midst of his prime at the age of 27 – and has also proven himself to be real handful for defences over the years, scoring a total of 102 goals throughout his career.

Furthermore – from a personal viewpoint – the Scotland international was also born in Leicester, so he would be moving back close to home if a deal to join Nottingham Forest did materialise.

His old teammate – Matt Baker – even compared Adams to the Brazilian Ronaldo, telling the Guardian: “He reminds me a little bit of the old Ronaldo. He had that raw ability. I wouldn’t say he was electric quick but he was powerful and strong. He would brush people off and he could go through people, and he always had a finish at the end of it.”
