Report: Steve Cooper signing now frustrated & wants to leave, Nottingham Forest will accept £3m loss to sell

A player who Steve Cooper signed in 2023 is now very keen to leave Nottingham Forest after growing frustrated at the City Ground.

Plenty of squad upheaval is expected at the City Ground this summer as Evangelos Marinakis and Ross Wilson aim to trim Nuno Espirito Santo‘s bloated squad.

Three players have already been released – Felipe, Cheikhou Kouyate and Wayne Hennessey – and another now wants out of Nottingham Forest

Odysseas Vlachodimos keen to leave Nottingham Forest

A story from The Athletic now mentions that Odysseas Vlachodimos wants to leave Nottingham Forest this summer.

The Greece international is said to be very frustrated at a lack of opportunities afforded to him at the City Ground – and is particularly desperate to secure a move away as soon as possible.

Vlachodimos made just five Premier League appearances last season, the last of which came in December when Nottingham Forest lost 5-0 to Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Matt Turner then took over the No.1 role, before the United States international himself was replaced by Matz Sels.

Once the Belgium international arrived from Strasbourg in January, Vlachodimos was not even earning a place on the bench as Nuno opted to drop him from the squad entirely.

The Athletic add that Nottingham Forest would be happy to sell the Stuttgart-born glovesman for a sum of £4.5m this summer.

That represents a small £3.2m loss on the initial £7.7m Nottingham Forest paid to sign Vlachodimos from Benfica in September 2023.

Nobody can blame the Greece international for feeling this way

We sympathise with Vlachodimos – as the 2023/24 campaign was a truly turbulent season for him personally.

Not only did the 30-year-old uproot his life, and his family, to leave Portugal after five years at Benfica, but he also willingly gave up a No.1 spot in Lisbon which enabled him to play regularly in the UEFA Champions League and compete for silverware.

Vlachodimos presumably didn’t sacrifice all of that to become third choice at Nottingham Forest – he was surely promised a more prominent role, and also more than just five Premier League games to show his skills.

Hopefully, the Nottingham Forest No.23 can find a new club this summer, or else he could be waiting a while to leave the City Ground, with a contract running until July 2027.
