Rangers leading £5m transfer chase for Rrahmani, Koppen has held talks already

Rangers aren’t quite spending big this summer, but it would appear that Philippe Clement is being given the sort of budget needed to lead his side to title glory.

The manager is fully aware of the task at hand and what area of the squad needs most attention.

Oscar Cortes has been signed with Yusuf Kabadayi and Adama Traore also linked with moves, however, the latest news surrounding Rangers efforts to sign Albion Rrahmani should excite even the most pessimistic of fans.

Rangers move for Albion Rrahmani picks up pace

At 6ft 2inches tall, the Kosovo international has the physicality needed to cope with the demands of Scottish football.

With 19 goals and five assists in 30 games for Rapid Bucharest, he also has the finishing ability needed too.

Ankle injury aside this season, the 23-year old’s injury history is nothing to worry about, and it won’t have been a topic of conversation this week for Rangers recruitment chief.

In an exclusive report from Romanian media outlet Digisport, Nils Koppen has met representatives of Rrahmani this week with Rangers leading the chase for the striker’s signature:

“One of Rangers’ officials has already had a discussion with the player’s representatives.

“Nils Koppen, the new director of the “recruitment” department, was in Mexico at a summit where he met with officials of KT Management, the company that represents Albion Rrahmani, but also Ermal Krasniqi, another Kosovar player from Rapid’s team.”

Rangers could balance books with striker sale

A fee of just over £5m is said to be considered with Slavia Prague having already been knocked back with a bid of £2.5m.

Rangers spent over £13m on strikers last season between Danilo, Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers with the latter expected to be sold this summer after his impressive spell on loan at Utrecht.

£5m is a lot of money when a big rebuild is required, however, it could be that a Dessers or Lammers sale is being banked on to pay for Rrahmani – more likely the much-maligned Dutchman.

If it does, it will be the best thing he did for Rangers.
