Report: Sheffield United now make move to sign £4m Nottingham Forest player who has been told he can leave

Sheffield United now look set to sign a player from Nottingham Forest after making an approach.

Evangelos Marinakis will presumably welcome approaches from anybody for fringe players at the City Ground, as Sky Sports claim sales must be made before June 30th to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Sky Sports – nor any other outlet for that matter – seem to know exactly how much money must be raised, with Sky Sports even describing the figure as a “magic number” in their report.

Nevertheless, a welcome £4m cash injection could soon be heading the way of Nottingham Forest after Sheffield United made an approach…

Sheffield United make move to sign Joe Worrall

A story from Football Insider now claims that Sheffield United have made a move to sign Joe Worrall.

The 27-year-old made seven Premier League appearances last season before falling out with Steve Cooper, after being left out of the starting XI.

Worrall was then loaned out to Besiktas in January for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign, and has now been told he can join a new club this summer as Nuno Espirito Santo deems the Englishman surplus to requirements.

Football Insider believe the central defender is likely to leave the City Ground on a permanent basis in the coming weeks – although the value of Sheffield United’s bid is not disclosed.

How much Nottingham Forest want for the 27-year-old

For a player who captained Nottingham Forest to promotion, boasts 168 Championship appearances and is also still just 27 years of age, the Reds are not demanding that much for Worrall this summer.

According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, the Garibaldi will accept just £4m to sell the Nottingham-born defender, despite the fact he still has 24 months remaining on his contract.

Evidently, Nottingham Forest just want to recoup money wherever they can, with many fringe players still hanging around the City Ground at a time where sales are needed urgently.

One player who Nottingham Forest were thought to have released actually seems to still be contracted to the club – after a bizarre interview.

Hopefully, Sheffield United do not play hardball with the Reds, and can push Nottingham Forest £4m closer to the green section of PSR balance sheets before June 30th.
