‘Has to be’: Pundit picks who he thinks is better out of Kevin De Bruyne and Steven Gerrard

Gabby Agbonlahor has shared who he thinks is better out of Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Steven Gerrard.

The former Liverpool captain spent 17 years in the Merseyside club’s senior side, whereas the Belgian has now competed nine seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

Having both spent such a long time in the Premier League, one pundit and former top-flight player has shared his thoughts on where the duo rank in terms of the best midfielders in Premier League history.

Gabby Agbonlahor picks the best midfielder out of Kevin De Bruyne and Steven Gerrard

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor had this to say when asked if he would have De Bruyne in his top five list of all-time Premier League midfielders.

He said: “For me, I still can’t have him top, I’m sorry, he’s second for me behind Steven Gerrard.

“I’m going to look at Steven Gerrard first, I’m going to put De Bruyne second, I’ve got to go [Frank] Lampard third, [Paul] Scholes fourth and David Silva fifth.

“Steven Gerrard, for me, he was everything in the Premier League. De Bruyne – outstanding – but I’m going to have to put him in second place.

“I’m not judging on what they won because obviously De Bruyne has won a lot more but Steven Gerrard, for me, has to be in first position.”

De Bruyne vs Gerrard

Across his 504 Premier League games for Liverpool, Gerrard scored 121 goals and delivered 97 assists but failed to win even one title.

In comparison, De Bruyne has scored 68 goals and supplied 114 assists across his 260 top-flight appearances, winning six titles along the way.

Even though the City star knows what it’s like to be an English champion and Gerrard doesn’t, it’s understandable why Agbonlahor has named the pair as the top two midfielders in Premier League history.
