Report: Tottenham have extended contract of 'phenomenal' Spurs player

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou will be eager to bolster his ranks in order to do well in the Premier League, the Europa League and the domestic cups next term.

Tottenham also have a number of players who appear surplus to requirements and whose futures likely lie away from N17.

Now, a report has emerged claiming that Spurs have extended the contract of a player widely expected to depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The player in question is Joe Rodon, who has been out of favour at Tottenham for quite a while now.

According to football.london, the Wales international’s contract was set to expire soon, but Spurs have taken up a year’s option to extend it to 2025.

The report claims Rodon isn’t in Postecoglou’s plans for next season, but extending his contract will give Tottenham some leverage in transfer talks for the player.

Rodon has just enjoyed a ‘phenomenal‘ season on loan at Leeds United, although they fell at the final hurdle in the Championship playoff final.

The Whites didn’t have an option to sign the defender permanently, but considering how well he did for them, he’s bound to have a lot of suitors for his services this summer.

Could Tottenham defender Joe Rodon join Leeds United permanently this summer?

Leeds appear unlikely to sign Rodon in wake of their failure to reach the Premier League, according to journalist Josh Hughes.

“Rodon can command a fee, he has done well,” he recently said on the Spurs Chat Podcast.

“Whether Leeds can, Leeds will want him of course, but I don’t think they have a chance now. I’d be shocked if Leeds went and got him because of missing out on promotion.

“I think he would’ve gone if they’d got in the Premier League, but there will be Premier League clubs who are looking at him who have seen enough quality there,”
