'We will see': £100m player Manchester City reportedly want to sign now finally opens up on his future

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has now spoken about his future, amid speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City.

The Brazil international is thought to be a player Pep Guardiola is interested in signing this summer.

Currently, City don’t have much cover for Rodri. Mateo Kovacic can hold in midfield, but the Croatian can also be used as a box-to-box player.

Bruno Guimaraes signed for Newcastle in January 2022 shortly after the club’s takeover – and he has gone on to establish himself as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League.

Apparently, City have interest in him this summer. There doesn’t appear to be anything happening at the moment given some new comments he has made. However, the player has left the door slightly ajar…

At the moment, Bruno is on duty with Brazil as they gear up for the Copa America later this month.

It will be a chance for the player to add to his 20 caps for his country. Having been in such good form for Newcastle of late, Bruno is now a regular for Brazil.

City have seemingly been quite impressed with the South American maestro in recent times.

But City fans were a little gutted last week when it was reported that the player would not be leaving Newcastle this summer.

Now, Bruno has had his say – and an exit doesn’t look to be on the cards. He is quoted by Fabrizio Romano as saying: “My future? I’m under contract at Newcastle, I’m very happy. I don’t know what’s going to happen with Financial Fair Play, but I can say I’m very happy.

“It’s nice to see my name linked with big clubs, it means I’m doing my job well.

“But I’m not worried – I’m happy at Newcastle. We will see what happens.”

On Thursday, it was reported that Newcastle are one of six clubs in the Premier League who are under financial pressure at the moment, and that players will need to be old by these clubs to comply with Profit and Sustainability rules.

City may have chance to land Bruno due to Newcastle’s financial situation

It sounds as though Bruno is fairly happy where he is right now, but obviously there is talk about Newcastle’s financial position at the moment and how they may need to sell.

We saw last season how Nottingham Forest and Everton both got docked points by the Premier League for breaching spending rules, and Newcastle will not want to suffer the same fate.

It is just a question of whether City will want to go near Bruno’s reported £100 million release clause.

Potentially, with Newcastle needing to raise funds, the Magpies might be willing to accept a lower fee if no one is willing to trigger it.

City making a move for Bruno would certainly be exciting. The 26-year-old is without doubt one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and has already been hailed as ‘exceptional’ by Guardiola.
