At least six people were killed, among them three children, in a bus accident in north-western Syria, activists and a war monitoring group said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitor with a network of sources across the country, said about 20 children arrived in good health to the hospital in the town of Darkush, west of Idlib.

The group said the bus was carrying the students of a Koranic memorization institute when it fell into the waters of the Orontes River.

The bus overturned on a road in the Ayoun Ara area near the town of Darkush in the western Idlib countryside. Fighting did not play a role in the accident, the group said.

The bus had around 32 people on board, among them teachers and 25 children, Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Observatory told dpa.

He added they were on a field trip.
