Arsenal told winger who snubbed Arteta is actually 'better than Gabriel Martinelli'

Jay Bothroyd has claimed that one former Arsenal target is a better player than Gabriel Martinelli.

The Gunners have got almost every single one of their transfers right over the last two years. Edu and Mikel Arteta have done a phenomenal job in that department.

However, Arsenal have missed out on a couple of their targets after being heavily linked with a move to sign them in recent windows.

Mykhaylo Mudryk is one of them.

Pundit makes shocking claim about Mykhaylo Mudryk and Gabriel Martinelli

Mudryk was a key Arsenal target in January 2023.

The Gunners tried extremely hard to sign the Ukraine international winger, who was playing for Shakhtar Donetsk at the time.

After weeks of negotiations and Mudryk even posting a picture of himself in an Arsenal shirt, Chelsea hijacked the Gunners’ move to sign him.

Then-Blues boss Graham Potter reportedly convinced the winger to snub Arteta and join Chelsea instead (Football London).

Arsenal fans feel they’ve dodged a bullet with Mudryk, who has had a really poor time at Stamford Bridge since his move there in January 2023.

However, Bothroyd, for whatever reason, is convinced that Mudryk is a better player than Arsenal star Martinelli.

He said on The Optus Sport Football Podcast: “Mudryk, for me, he’s a top player, you know.

“I think, if he was at Arsenal under those kind of conditions and that kind of play style, seriously, I’m not just saying that, I think he would have been really good.

“I don’t think they would have won the league still, but I think he’s better than Martinelli.”

Martinelli vs Mudryk stats compared

We’re sure every Arsenal fan would agree that Bothroyd’s comments above are really silly.

Martinelli is one of the best wingers in the Premier League. On his day, he is unstoppable and has already shown his class at the top level.

Mudryk, on the other hand, has proved to be a really poor signing for the Blues – his numbers will tell you that. The Ukrainian has scored just seven goals and provided four assists in 58 games for Chelsea.

Martinelli, in what was a terrible individual season for him in 2023/24, scored eight goals and provided five assists in all competitions.

The Arsenal number 11 fared better in what was arguably his worst season at the club than Mudryk has in his entire Chelsea career.

That should prove that Martinelli is levels above Mudryk – it’s not even close!
