Daniel Suárez has a connection to Carl Edwards as he replaced the Hall of Famer driver when he announced his retirement in 2017. While speaking to Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, Suárez talked about the impact Edwards has on him and his career.

“Carl is a special individual,” Suárez said. “I like Carl a lot. Between Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards, they were the two drivers that literally gave me a hand when I was coming up. When I was in the Truck Series and Xfinity Series it was Kyle Busch, he helped me a lot. And once I went to Cup, Carl Edwards was that guy that was helping me a lot.

“But he was a little disconnected. He was slowly going his way and he was still helping me just to get rolling. Carl is an amazing guy. He definitely deserves to be part of the Hall of Fame. I wish he comes back to race every once in a while.”

Edwards compete for Joe Gibbs Racing for two seasons before announcing his retirement. Suárez was with the team for two seasons before being replaced by Martin Truex Jr. He wanted to be with Joe Gibbs Racing for a long time, but he never won a Cup Series race and only neared three top-five places from 2017 to 2018.

Daniel Suárez said the same thing about Carl Edwards in 2017

When Suárez took over for Edwards, he spoke to NBC Sports about the help he was getting from him. “Oh yeah, we keep in touch,” he said in the 2017 interview. “Actually, even he’s not racing full-time, he’s still helping me in a lot of different areas. Not just in the race car, but out of the race car as well.

“We have to remember that there is a team that I’m racing with right now that he’s known since last year. He knows these guys very, very well, and everything he’s done for me. So yeah, I keep in communication with him, and he’s been helpful trying to make all the communication and chemistry a good deal better.”

Suárez continued: “He’s accomplished so many good things in the sport. He’s got some other things he wants to accomplish as well. And that’s something we don’t talk about a lot. But you never know. He loves racing. Who knows? Maybe he comes back one day to do a few races.”
