Galdames wants transfer 'now' amid Rangers interest in non-nonsense stopper

Rangers seem to have several irons in the fire just now despite it being quiet since an opening transfer window flurry.

One name that continues to bubble away is Thomas Galdames, the Godoy Cruz defender currently on international duty hoping to make his debut for Chile.

Speculation has been rife that a move to Rangers could be on the cards and the player himself has reacted to reports.

Thomas Galdames breaks silence on Rangers transfer interest

Galdames contract ends in December so a similar deal to the one that saw Jose Cifuentes join from MLS is a possibility.

Philippe Clement will want his squad as near to full strength as possible for pre-season which makes waiting until January an unlikely scenario.

The 25-year old would command a small fee, however, it would be worth paying for a player with Galdames profile and reputation as a no-nonsense defender who has a midfielder’s ability on the ball.

Like Calvin Bassey, he is a competent left-back but who prefers to play in the middle.

Speaking to Chilean media outlet Cooperativa, it is clear that Galdames wants to move sooner, rather than later after his club confirmed that a move could be on:

“I don’t know anything, I have a contract in Godoy Cruz until December and mine and their idea is that they sell me now.

“My representative is working on that, they are not issues that concern me and I focus only on the games.

“I know that, going to Europe in a competitive league, before here in South America I will continue to grow.

“My career has been very progressive, especially upwards. I hope something comes out in June or July.

“Today the market opened so we will have news in these months.”

It’s going to be a busy time for Nils Koppen

Nils Koppen will be walking around with his headphones in for most of his waking hours at the moment.

Rangers are linked to players from Italy, Hungary, Germany, Argentina, USA and England to name but a few countries where targets have been identified.

He might want to get as many new faces as possible in the door, but this isn’t always the case for agents or clubs looking to get the best deal for them and their clients.

The good thing is, Galdames clearly wants to move to Europe and wants to move now and, with the potential offering of Champions League football, Ibrox could well be his next destination.
