Four-star cornerback Donovan Starr has committed to Auburn.

Starr, who is from Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn., announced his decision Thursday on social media. His decision comes just hours after leaving an official visit to Auburn.

And he made the decision in the car on his way home.

“We were driving home and I told my mom that I thought I was going to (commit),” he said. “She told me to just follow my heart.”

So, he did.

“I called Coach Crime (Wesley McGriff) and told him,” Starr said. “And then I talked to Coach (Hugh) Freeze and let him know. Everybody was excited.”

Official visit to Auburn was all Starr needed

Starr knew after visiting Auburn Tuesday-Thursday that he wanted to be a Tiger.

“It was really just Coach Crime, all the coaches,” he said. “Coach Freeze, Coach (DJ) Durkin … all the coaches showing love. They kept it real with me. It is great people there. Everybody around there are just great people.

“I also love the facilities, love the campus and everything about it. I couldn’t pass it up.”

Starr named Auburn his leader following the visit.

“I met all the coaches, saw the campus and dorms and all that stuff,” he said. “Coach Crime is a great dude and great coach. He has shown constant love, just being with him the whole time and learning more from him. Coach Crime told me I’m a priority and that sticks out to me a lot. You want to ultimately go where people want you and you’re a priority.”

And it wasn’t just McGriff that Starr was impressed with during his visit.

“The way they took care of my family, that stands out to me a lot.,” he said. “The people, nobody seems like they’re putting a face on or pretending. It seems everyone here is genuine. They love football. They love me as a person. It just seems like a great area to be and I could definitely see myself here.”

Starr is commitment No. 12 in Auburn’s 2024 class and third cornerback. He joins four-star Devin Williams and three-star Dante Core.

Starr has visits planned to Illinois, Missouri and Tennessee, but said Thursday he likely won’t take them.

“Probably not,” he said. “I probably won’t take anymore visits. I’m locked in.”

Starr, who is 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, is ranked the No. 12 overall recruit in Tennessee, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Starr also ranks the No. 385 overall recruit in the 2025 class and No. 36 cornerback.
