'I look at' – Man Utd legend told prestigious club could offer him Champions League football and 'big nights' if he signed

Manchester United legend David de Gea has been urged to consider signing for one club that could offer him a return to Champions League football.

David de Gea has been a free agent since last July after the former Manchester United No 1 made his exit from Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old Spaniard called it time on his decorated spell at the Premier League club after talks over a new deal with United broke down.

De Gea walked from the Red Devils after his contract expired, despite the United legend being keen to extend his stay at the club.

The United legend won the Premier League Golden Glove in his final season at Old Trafford, with De Gea making an overall 545 appearances for the Red Devils.

De Gea, who lifted a Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson, has patiently waited on the sideline ahead of making his long-awaited return to football.

The former Spain international has appeared to rule out retirement and continued to tease fans with the next move in his post-United career.

De Gea has been linked with clubs in England, Spain and Saudi Arabia since he became a free agent in 2023.

De Gea told to consider one club

Celtic legend Peter Grant has now admitted that he would be keen to see David de Gea make his return to football at his former club.

The Scottish side will be on the hunt for a new shot-stopper this summer after former Manchester City star Joe Hart confirmed he would retire from football.

Joe Hart, who signed for Celtic in 2021, lifted three Scottish Premierships, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups with his last club.

Peter Grant asked if De Gea would be ‘excited’ at the idea of playing for Celtic and believes the club could offer the Manchester United legend European football.

Speaking on Go Radio (via The Celtic Way), he said: “I’ve got [to] throw one out there.

“I look at David de Gea, he’s been training non-league in England. And I’m thinking, ‘There’s someone like David de Gea, a club like Celtic, European football. Would that excite him?”

Grant on De Gea snubbing Saudi Arabia

Peter Grant believes that De Gea won’t be heading to Saudi Arabia, despite the former United No 1 attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League in the past.

The Celtic legend added that the opportunity to play in the Champions League again could tempt the ex-Spain international to consider the Scottish side.

“Okay, it will cost you a few shillings,” Grant added.

“But if he’s not going to the likes of Saudi Arabia, because no doubt that’s where he’d get the most money.

“But if he’s taken a year out and all of a sudden wants to get back – big nights at Celtic Park, eight Champions League matches. Would that be something that excites him?

“But that’s somebody I’d be looking at. That’s the sort of personality you’re probably going to have to replace Joe Hart with.”
