Report: Celtic make their move for top target, sizable fee needed after stellar season

Celtic appear to have identified the man they want to replace Joe Hart as the club’s number one goalkeeper.

Hart is retiring from professional football after capping off his career with a three-year stint at Celtic that resulted in 153 appearances and seven trophies.

It’s reported by Football Scotland that the Bhoys have now entered negotiations with Sparta Prague for Danish goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen.

It’s stated that Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the former AZ Alkmaar star and that he has emerged as one of the ‘key targets’ for the club to get over the line this summer.

The report states a sizable fee will need to be paid by Celtic to land their man but that this hasn’t put the club off as they look to thrash out a deal with the Czech double winners over the coming weeks.

Danish goalkeeper found success in Prague

Winning the league and the Czech cup in 2023/24, Jensen enjoyed the kind of success that is familiar to Celtic, keeping 15 clean sheets in all competitions from 47 appearances.

After being knocked out in Champions League qualification by Copenhagen last summer, the goalkeeper and his team also went on an extended Europa League run.

They dumped Dinamo Zagreb out of the playoffs before making it out of a group that also included Real Betis, Rangers and Aris Limassol.

Sparta then knocked out Galatasaray in the Round of 32 before exiting at the hands of Liverpool in the last 16.

The 26-year-old has also had playing spells at Nuremberg and Nordsjaelland, as well as his stint with AZ.

It’ll be very interesting to see how this one develops with the language in the report suggesting that this is the man that Celtic really want to fill the void left by Hart.
