In the Sumy region, the list of towns for evacuation within a 10-kilometer zone near the border with Russia has been expanded, citing the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artiukh.

He said that during a meeting of the regional defense council, the military command proposed the evacuation of residents from eight additional border towns. These are settlements within a 10-kilometer zone near the border that are constantly being shelled by the enemy.

"Orders have already been issued, and the relevant services, along with the communities, will implement this decision," Artiukh said.

Situation in Sumy region

Part of the Sumy region was occupied by the Russians at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The territories were liberated in March-April 2022.

However, the situation in the Sumy region remains unstable, especially in the border areas. The Russian army almost daily shells the border areas from its territory. Additionally, there is recorded activity of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups.

Border guards have said that Russia does not maintain sufficient forces on the border for a renewed offensive on the Sumy region. However, border guards do not rule out that the Russians may stage provocations.
