Cambridge United have tied young defender Mamadou Jobe down to a new three-year contract.
The 21-year-old made a big impression towards the back end of the 2023/24 campaign after being recalled from a loan spell in the Vanarama National League with Gateshead over the Easter period.
He made his Football League debut for the U’s in the crucial 2-0 victory at Barnsley and in total featured in Sky Bet League One fixtures before his season was cut short by concussion suffered in an off-the-ball incident with Chris Martin – the result of which saw the Bristol Rovers striker suspended for four games.
And Jobe will now look to build upon those eye-catching displays having put pen to paper on fresh terms at the Cledara Abbey Stadium.
He said: “I am really happy to be signing a new contract with the club.
“The manager has shown a lot of faith in me since he came into the club and he has given me a lot of confidence that I am ready to be playing League One football.
“I can’t wait to get started again for the new season, to have a full pre-season with the boys under my belt and kick on again.”
Meanwhile, head coach Garry Monk added: “We are all delighted that Mamadou has chosen to continue his journey with Cambridge United.
“Mamadou showed at the end of last season he is ready to impact his potential on the team. As a club It is really important that we retain our talented young players and continue to develop them both on and off the pitch.”
Jobe has joined Elias Kachunga and Glenn McConnell in signing new contracts with the club this summer.
