Report: Champions League finalists now targeting player Crystal Palace sold for £1m last summer

Crystal Palace are often spot-on with the decisions made in the transfer window, but there are still instances of poor decisions.

As a club, Crystal Palace are definitely on the up and seems to be able to do no wrong recently. this has mainly been since Oliver Glasner got settled in at the club and despite the season being over, the good times have continued.

After concluding the campaign with six wins and a draw, several of the Eagles squad have been rewarded. This is the case with four of the English players who are heading to Germany for the Euros.

It seems that even for former Palace players, things are going well, with Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund now considering a move for Jake O’Brien who Palace sold last summer for just £855,000.

Here’s everything we know about the latest transfer rumours.

Borussia Dortmund showing interest in Jake O’Brien

After a strong debut campaign in Lyon, Jake O’Brien has now been attracting interest, including from one of the Champions League finalists.

In France, O’Brien quickly became a starter and has impressed ever since and now the Independent in Ireland have reported that he’s got tonnes of interest this summer.

The report explains that Borussia Dortmund are one club mulling over a move for the Irishman, a week removed from their Champions League final loss.

Interest is also there from AC Milan who are said to be keen, while Everton are also still keen, as they have been for a large period of the season.

The 23-year-old who stands at 6ft 6in is a late bloomer and his star continues to rise as he hopes for a full Ireland debut on Tuesday against Portugal, where he is working with Paddy McCarthy again.

Selling O’Brien was a mistake by Crystal Palace

While Palace usually excels in recruiting young talents, in this scenario, they’ve actually let one go and he’s now showing it was the wrong decision.

Under Glasner, with a back three, O’Brien would absolutely shine and had he been loaned or given a few months to prove himself, it could save Palace from having to buy multiple centre-halves this summer with Chadi Riad a likely first arrival.

If O’Brien goes on to shine for Dortmund, it will be a decision that the club will rue. That being said, the past cannot be changed, and the Eagles need to just focus on bringing in more defensive recruits.
