'Trump is for sale': Conservatives outraged over ex-president's TikTok flip-flop

Donald Trump was anti-TikTok until he was all-in.

The former president who many moons ago sought to ban the trendy Chinese government-owned social media app while holding office — has not only made a 180-degree switch by launching his very own account — but he's also come forward publicly by promising to protect it.

"You’ll never ban TikTok, that’s for sure," Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk asked Trump in a post on the platform.

Back in 2020, Trump signed an Executive Order that sought to do away with TikTok.

"At this time, action must be taken to address the threat posed by one mobile application in particular, TikTok," it read.

In April, President Joe Biden signed into law a bill that would ban TikTok in the United States if its Chinese owner Bytedance fails to find a buyer for the app within a year.

Congress passed what is now a law to force TikTok to find a new American owner within months or be banned from the United States entirely.

There have been many lawmakers and officials skeptical of the China’s government tapping TikTok's user data to keep tabs on Americans’ personal data.

For some who appear to harbor conservative ideals, the flip-flop was a didn't sit well.

Peter Henlein, whose TikTok post had some observers suggest it was recorded in the men's restroom — questioned the GOP leader's decision.

"Trump is for sale, his TikTok advocacy makes that much clear," he wrote before introducing the clip. "He says 'I’ll never ban TikTok' not 'the TikTok bill is written badly and is a risk to the 1A.'"

He added: Protecting TikTok is his goal. That isn’t America First."

"He’s brazenly for sale, not much better than China Joe on that front," reads a Twitter/X post by Jenny Jupite.

Conservative commentator Erick Erickson previously said of Trump's change of heart, "It’s terrible optics to have the GOP going soft on China.”

But Joshua Rodriguez defended the move by the MAGA leader. "It's freedom of speech jacka-- sftu."
