Man Utd fans all saying same thing about Gareth Southgate after England lose 1-0 to Iceland

Friday saw rumours begin to circle that Gareth Southgate is Manchester United’s top managerial target but fans had plenty to say about this.

As Ineos‘ end-of-season review at Manchester United looks like it’s heading toward yet another new week, reports began to circulate that the club actually see Gareth Southgate as the priority to replace Erik ten Hag.

This came according to various sources all at once, but it’s a move that the fanbase is never pleased with the idea of when it’s been mentioned. Friday night then saw Southgate take his England side to Wembley where they faced Iceland in a final friendly match prior to the Euros.

The result didn’t go as the England boss would’ve wanted, with Kobbie Mainoo in the starting line-up, the Three Lions suffered a 1-0 loss, in which Southgate’s tactical plans failed to impress United fans who were watching.

Now, the United fanbase has been reacting to the display and expressed their lack of desire to see Southgate at Old Trafford.

Manchester United fans are all saying the same thing about Gareth Southgate

After England was defeated 1-0, United fans were on social media and had one clear message for Ineos.

One fan sent his message clearly to the decision makers: “I know the rumours aren’t true, but INEOS, Ashworth – If you bring this man anywhere near our club, I will never forgive you”.

“The thought of Southgate coaching Manchester United makes me want to stop watching”, wrote a second fan.

One club fan page put it simply: “Nobody wants Southgate at Manchester United.”

A fourth fan came to the same conclusion: “The fact that United are even linked with appointing Southgate is laughable.”

One season ticket holder admitted he’d take drastic action if Southgate was appointed: “Only thing that would ever stop me going to United would probably be if they made Southgate the manager”.

“Keep Southgate as far away from United as possible!”, argued another.

A seventh predicted how long the England boss would last at Carrington: “Gareth Southgate wouldn’t survive until Halloween at Manchester United”.

A further fan explained that the football style would put him to sleep: “Anyone else falling asleep watching England under Southgate? God help us if he becomes Manchester United manager”.

Finally, another fan wrote: “I’ll be INEOSOut if they even try and bring Southgate to United”.

Ineos would be crazy to appoint Gareth Southgate

The reason Ineos’ review has taken so long to complete as the new decision-makers are desperate to get their first big call correct.

However, everyone can see that Southgate would be the wrong appointment and would be an inevitable sacking as his style of football simply isn’t compatible with the club.

This is not to mention that he is far from the required quality tactically as he has proven on countless occasions for England. An appointment that the fanbase would be against from day number one, it seems like a match made in hell, and one doomed to fail.
