Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw seven innings of two-hit ball in the best start of his brief Major League Baseball career but got no decision Friday in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 11-inning 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees.
Yamamoto allowed a hit in each of the first two innings and twice stranded a runner in scoring position. His two walks came in the sixth and seventh innings before he exited his 106-pitch gem at Yankee Stadium.
"Because my mechanics were good, my pitches had the power of my weight transfer behind them. That showed what I can do," said the three-time MVP from Japan's majors whose contract is the largest ever offered to a pitcher.
"I felt there was more hype about this game than usual but I could concentrate thoroughly on the game itself, and that led to this result."
Teoscar Hernandez hit a two-run double with one out in the top of the 11th as the Dodgers opened the scoring. Aaron Judge singled in a run in the home half but the home team fell short.
Shohei Ohtani went hitless in his five trips to the plate for the Dodgers.
