‘Too good’: Leeds United will have no problem selling £14.5m defender this summer - journalist

Leeds United are back to square one when it comes to the future of several returning loanees this summer.

In the wake of relegation just over a year ago, Leeds lost eight first team players on loan as a result of clauses that were inserted into their contracts by previous ownership.

Of that group, only Luis Sinisterra and Robin Koch have so far been able to secure permanent exits, meaning six are now due to return to Elland Road this summer.

Having said that, Paraag Marathe has insisted Leeds are in somewhat of a better position this time around with only two of the six able to leave on loan again.

Jack Harrison is definitely one of them and looks set for a move back to Everton. Marc Roca is believed to be the other one, with a return to Real Betis all but finalised.

Transfer insider shares update on Max Wober’s Leeds future

With all that in mind, Leeds are in a position where they are now able to sell four of those loan players, should they wish to do so.

However, that is going to solely depend on the level of interest they can attract. Union Berlin will not be making Brenden Aaronson‘s stay permanent, and so he will either have to stay at Leeds, or be sold for a substantial loss.

AS Roma are still mulling over whether to sign Diego Llorente permanently, but Rasmus Kristensen will be coming back, with no word on any interest elsewhere.

That just leaves defender Max Wober, who looks more and more unlikely to be returning to Borussia Monchengladbach permanently, despite enjoying a good season.

That is because Gladbach are unable to match Leeds’ £14.5 million asking price. That said, according to transfer insider Graeme Bailey, it should not matter too much, as there are plenty of Bundesliga clubs who would be willing to take him.

Speaking exclusively to LeedsUnited.News, he said: “I think Wober will find another Bundesliga club to take him on loan, maybe to even buy him. He is a good player and too good for the Championship so I don’t think there will be an issue with him.”

What has Wober said about his Leeds future?

Wober is currently away on international duty preparing to represent Austria at the upcoming European Championships in Germany.

In an interview last week, Wober was asked what his future could potentially hold at club level, but insisted it is not something he wants to think about until after the tournament.

He said: “My aim was to answer the club question before the Euros. But it is what it is now. I told my manager that he doesn’t need to call me or tell me anything in the next four weeks. I want to play in the Euros now. After that we’ll see where it goes.

“I only found out about it [Red Bull sponsoring Leeds] from the media. I am now 26 years old and no longer fit Salzburg’s profile. On the other hand, an experienced player might do them good.

“It will also depend on what they say. But they will probably have to digest this playoff defeat for a week or two. We will see how they want to position themselves and whether I am in their plans or not.

“If you’re in contact with the manager all the time, you automatically start thinking about it, start looking for an apartment, organize the move and talk to family and girlfriend about it. I just want to block it out and not worry about it.

“The Euro is a career highlight for me. My first international match and my first Champions League game will only be topped by the European Championship. If I get to play, I want to enjoy it 100 percent.”
