Big Aleix Garcia to West Ham twist as Jacob Steinberg makes stunning new claim

Aleix Garcia would be a truly stunning signing for West Ham United, and he’d undoubtedly help take us to another level entirely.

West Ham are believed to be interested in signing the 26-year-old Girona midfielder, but a new twist has emerged this afternoon.

Central midfield is somewhat of a problem position for Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui, and he has to address it this summer.

It’s why West Ham are allegedly prepared to pay £14 million for Garcia, and offer him a £65k-a-week deal.

Lopetegui likes his teams to build up from the back, on into midfield. That means that Tomas Soucek will not be suited to the 57-year-old’s system one little bit.

The Spaniard needs to add someone who’s really comfortable in possession to his engine room, and whoever that man is needs to have a supreme range of passing in his arsenal as well.

Aleix Garcia certainly fits into that category, and he’d be a truly sensational addition to Lopetegui’s ranks.

In 37 La Liga appearances for Girona this season just gone, the 26-year-old averaged 1.3 tackles, one interception and 1.3 clearances per game. He made 73.6 passes on average per match and recorded an incredibly impressive completion rate of 91.7% (Who Scored).

He was one of the very best deep-lying midfielders in Europe last term, so it’s easy to see why Lopetegui wants him at the London Stadium.

And now the lie of the land has changed regarding the race to sign Garcia, according to a top Hammers source…

Big Aleix Garcia to West Ham twist emerges

The Girona star is clearly ready to leave Girona this summer, despite the fact that he will be playing Champions League football next season if he stays with them.

In my opinion, West Ham would be a really good move for him, if he wants to taste life in the Premier League.

And now, the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg has provided a big new claim regarding Garcia’s potential next destination.

The Girona midfielder is incredibly highly sought-after this summer, after his sensational La Liga campaign last season.

The thought of him lined up alongside Edson Alvarez in the heart of the Hammers’ midfield is an incredibly tantalising one.

However, does Lopetegui have a realistic chance of bringing him to the London Stadium this summer?

A big update has emerged today, highlighting how the landscape has shifted.

Steinberg said, “They have attempted to derail Bayer Leverkusen’s move for the Girona midfielder Aleix García. García is thought to have an agreement with Leverkusen but West Ham are not out of the running.”

The news that Leverkusen have actually agreed a deal to sign the Spaniard is brand new infortmation.

The German side were thought to be leading the race for the Girona star, but the fact they have an agreement in place to bring him to the BayArena means that West Ham have no option but to make a formal offer for him now.

Aleix Garcia sitting just in front of our back four next to Alvarez would improve us defensively overnight, but here’s the kicker…

The Spaniard would help the Hammers improve our play in transition due to his excellent passing ability, composure in possession and super impressive vision.

Let’s hope that the West Ham owners dig deep and do enough to win the race for Garcia this summer. He would be a signing that will send shockwaves around Europe, and a statement that Lopetegui means business at the London Stadium this summer.
