Report: Newcastle are now reluctantly considering selling 'exceptional' player

It’s going to be a fascinating summer at Newcastle United.

Thoughthere has been talk of a big rebuild, it remains to be seen the extent FFP restrictions have on plans to revamp Eddie Howe’s squad.

Indeed, the Newcastle manager has already suggested the summer window will be “difficult”, albeit he’s never likely to sit there and say the club are going to splash lots of cash.

Unable to sign anyone in January, the prospect of selling a key player in order to raise cash was raised then.

The hope, of course, is that neither Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes will be sold. Isak has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay at St James’ Park, as of course has Guimaraes.

The complication, however, is that Guimaraes has a release clause in his contract.

Still, Newcastle may have now come across a way to raise significant money without selling either of those two players, albeit they may have stumbled across that somewhat reluctantly.

Yankuba Minteh, after all, has been hailed as “exceptional” following an excellent loan stint at Feyenoord in which he scored 11 goals in 27 appearances while winning the KNVB Cup.

However, he may now be leaving Newcastle without making a single first-team appearance.

Newcastle could now reluctantly agree to sell Yankuba Minteh amid Liverpool interest

According to The Daily Telegraph, the club are reluctantly considering offers to sell the 19-year-old.

Liverpool are now under the stewardship of Arne Slot, who coached the winger in the Netherlands, and are said to be just one of the clubs keen.

There is said to be strong interest in Minteh from around Europe and Newcastle are understood to have set a price tag of around £40m.

Selling Yankuba Minteh could come back to bite Newcastle

In an ideal world, Newcastle would be able to shift the likes of Miguel Almiron before selling a player on the rise – particularly if he goes to a domestic rival.

However, Almiron seemingly wants to stay and has previously rejected a move to Saudi Arabia.

With that in mind, it might be a case of needs-must.

Selling Minteh could be a long-term blow. Tipped to hit world class levels in a matter of years, it could well come back to bite the club.

Still, if it means keeping Isak and Guimaraes, it may be a necessarily evil to undertake.

In the short-term, at least…
